Listed below are a few of my own and some of the more traditional principles that we abide by in the Dojo. The Dojo Kun is the code of conduct under which the art of karate is practiced. It is seeking the perfection of the character through sincerity, effort, etiquette and self-control.
Traditional Dojo Kun
- Seek perfection of character
- To defend the ways of truth
- To foster the spirit of effort
- To honour the principles of etiquette
- Refrain from violent behaviour
And a few of our own club principles
- Always bow when you enter or exit the Dojo
- Respect those of a higher grade than you
- You, and your Gi (suit) must be clean and tidy
- Respect your fellow students abillities
- Listen, you learn faster
- discipline starts with you
- Power is nothing, without control
- The Sensei’ word is final
